They have this medley of food called a "Power Protein Pack" You can see the food through the wrapper, and I immediately started laughing and ripping the employees for their company's ridiculous new attempt. I didn't even have to read the nutritional facts to see that the carbs and fat were outweighing the protein by twice as much each, four times as much total. Its got an egg, a bagel, fruit, cheese, and peanut butter. Why in the world do people think that peanut butter equals protein. Peanut butter is mostly fat and the protein that is in there is crap. Think about it- peanut protein? Yeah, your body can use a lot of that. Just fyi- when I say crappy protein, I mean low "Biological Value", which means your body retains a relatively low amount of it and expells the rest. Hence- crap. The sad thing is a lot of parents love to feed their athletic kids peanut butter.
Remember this when you're reading labels: Fat grams have 9 calories per gram. Protein and carb grams have 4 calories per gram. So seeing something with 10 grams of fat and 10 grams of protein means there is slightly more than twice as much fat in it than protein.
So back to Starbucks and their horrific labeling scheme. I went back over and read the label, and the Power Protein Pack is 18% protein, 42% carbs, and 41% fat. I think thats even less than what the "experts" recommend for the average persons daily intake from a ratio standpoint. I wouldn't know because paying attention to "experts" won't get you anywhere, especially when it comes to nutrition in this country.
This one product isn't a big deal and is probably a decent meal. The name of it just pisses me off because a lot people won't know any better. I actually don't think that label should be legal. It might not be come to think of it. It might qualify for ensinuating a high-protein product which may have to meet certain requirements by regulators. I'm not going to look into it though. Its far better just to not pay any attention whatsoever to the FDA regarding their nutritional info.
